Surigao

Here’s a few photos from my Flickr site. I just thought of posting them here in this blog now that I’m beginning to like it and now that my D50 was already gone (stolen!!!).

I was raised in a laid back yet beautiful town named Surigao. It is a coastal town at the northern tip of Mindanao.

Passing Time

The Surigao River. Back then, it was here where my siblings and I spend most of our childhood playing during weekends. My older brother used to hunt birds around this area bringing with him our pet dog name Wrestler. We don’t do that any more since we’ve gotten old enough and there’s not too many birds to hunt nowadays.

Dusk

The squash field at dusk. Aside from rice, sometimes farmers plant other vegetables when it’s off season for it or when the season is too dry that it’s too risky to plant rice. This one is my favorite because the of the soft fruit is almost as soft as a potato and tastes a lot better. I’m not making sense. Haha.

Mango tree, Carabaos and a river...

A typical Filipino scene. Reminds me of an old elementary subject, Sibika at Kultura.

Rice and me

Rice and me.

Chicks dig old carabaos

A post-processed photo taken from our backyard. Yes, i live in the middle of the rice field or somewhat near the middle. Haha. Oh, they’re Cattle Egrets (Bubulcus ibis) and the big guy is the native buffalo called Carabao (and I don’t know the scientific name, sorry).

Carabao

Oh, here’s another one.

Bonok-bonok Festival

The Bonok-bonok Festival. Held every 10th of September is a celebration of birth of Christianity in Surigao during the Spanish period. If I’m not wrong, with the mardi gras held in most of the major town fiestas across the archipelago, it appears that the Philippines had a very colorful culture before the Spaniards came. Hehe.
